So how did it all start? Lydia de Leeuw was born and raised in the province of Brabant in the Netherlands. She has a Master’s Degree in Literary Studies. She currently lives in Utrecht with her husband and a grumpy cat called Abubakari.
Lydia has loved singing all her life and started writing her own songs when she was twelve years old. Lacking the ability to play an instrument rather hampered her efforts though. This was finally remedied in 2012 when she was gifted a ukulele. She taught herself chords and practised by learning her favourite songs.
A singer-songwriter course taught by Rupert Blackman followed in 2013. And since then, she’s been on a roll, busking up a storm in Utrecht, performing at open mics and writing her own songs – mostly about people dead for centuries.
